Hive Presents SKRT:
Art And Music Exhibit
The 90s was a golden age of skateboarding culture in downtown New York City. The personalities of these individuals were so dynamic and notorious; someone created a film about them. Larry Clark's movie KIDS (1995) was a glimpse into what was happening on the streets of NYC during that time period. Featured in the movie were Nuri Bell, Ryan Sikorski and Harold Hunter to name a few, along with actor/skateboarder Justin Pierce and actresses Chloe Sevigny Rosario Dawson. Quim Cardona was character inspiration for one of the main roles.

This exhibit featured the artwork of Nuri Bell, painter and poet Jamal Simmons AKA Livingroom Johnston, Professional Skateboarder and owner of Sushi Wheels, Quim Cardona, and owner of clothing and record label Lush Life New York, Ryan Sikorski.

The photographer featured has created iconic images for major recording artists in the music industry. Eric Johnson has photographed artists such as Maxwell, Aaliyah and Lil Wayne. His client list includes Barneys NY, Island Records, Def Jam Recordings and Jive Records.

Music was provided by DJ Frank Lo and  Brian Johnson, CEO of the New London based recording studio, The Hit Room. The evening's musical performance was by Hip Hop Collective Neo-Canis

Honoring the life of legendary NYC skateboarder Harold Hunter (HaroldHunter.org).

A potion of all proceeds from this event will go toward the development of the New London Skatepark via the New London Skatepark Organization, a 509(a)2 public charity.
